Introducing my new book

A look into why I wrote “Woke leadership”

I wrote “Woke Leadership” because I have had the privilege of witnessing, coaching and consulting C-Suite leaders who are ushering in a new era of leadership.  I chose the term “woke” because it means being alert and attentive to important facts and issues; these traits are key to anticipating, detecting and responding to change. Woke leaders are engaging their organization and wider community to fulfill a purpose; and today that mission includes equity, social justice and sustainability.

I began writing in 2019 with the working title “mindful leadership”. At that time my client’s attention was being hijacked by the 24X7X365 maelstrom of an uber-connected economy. In this competitive environment, time converts to a commodity and attention is transmuted into algorithms. My clients turned to me to adopt a new mindset and I focused on the art of being mindful—being present, engaged and actively noticing new things—in my workshops and 1:1 coaching. Being mindful leads to new ways of viewing the products and engaging clients.

I had a eureka moment when I realized that mindfulness is only the tip of the iceberg. I noticed that my clients who had deep relationships with their key stakeholders placed their attention on purpose not profits, compassion not competition.  They also had the unique capacity to inhabit multi-layered spaces and when they do, they create agile, inclusive and innovative cultures based on empathy, generosity and opportunity. Have I captured your attention? I hope so, my book is available on Amazon.

It has been an exciting process and I have made discoveries along the way that I will share with you during my ZOOM book tour. This is not another how-to, this is a guide to the most effective, inspiring leadership I have had the privilege of witnessing during my 30+ coaching and consulting to C-Suite leaders.
